NBA Players Might Wear Nike's Self-Lacing Shoes

NIke's self-lacing sneaker prototype goes way behind Back to the Future day. Bloomberg reports that Nike CEO Mark Parker talked up the technology in
a private speech to National Basketball Association owners this month. In addition to the Nike Mag, Parker also told the owners the brand is planning to use high-tech sensors and body monitors in athletic gear for a custom fit.

The "Back to the Future" shoes that Nike gifted to Michael J. Fox last week seem to go beyond a publicity stunt or charitable endeavor. Bloomberg's source indicated that Parker believes the self-lacing Nike shoes will hit the market in a major way.

Nike's set to design the NBA's uniforms starting in 2017, when the brand's eight-year deal with the league kicks in. Basketball's a big priority for Nike: the company just rolled out a new collection for female players, and it's the first basketball collection actually designed by women for female athletes.
